State takes custody of 7-year-old over homeschooling

Social workers have been visiting a Swedish couple whose son was "abducted" by government agents last year because he was being homeschooled, but that's not necessarily a good sign, and now two major rights organizations are exploring options to reunite the family.

Read more on World Net Daily: Find out the latest right now on WND.com.

I haven't read the above yet, but will always pass along stories regarding homeschooling. Between the school unions hold on money / power and the government's desire to control / brain wash, homeschoolers are continually under attack.

Ethics report: Trip planners coordinated with Rangel's office

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) asked the ethics committee in 2006 whether he could solicit corporations to pick up costs for a Caribbean business conference he and other members of Congress have attended for years, according to the House investigative committee s report on the matter.

Reconciliation - Why Should the Democrats Stop With Healthcare?

After watching yesterday's "Healthcare Summit" I am more convinced than ever that it was Kabuki Theater at its finest. It was a political maneuver by Obama and clan to attempt to make a reconciliation vote more palatable to the masses.

It's coming. The Democrats are going to use reconciliation*.

I believe they'll toss in a few token changes for the Republicans so they can say "see, we really, really tried", then use reconciliation to pass the worst pile of poop ever proposed by a Congressional body.

However, mixing a bit of bad perfume into dog poop doesn't stop it from being poop. It just stinks worse. The current so-called Healthcare bill is nothing but a hodgepodge of special interest bad smelling excrement that is going to completely ruin our health care system.

I won't belabor all the fine points that have been smacked around by many since this became an issue... and still a top priority by Obama's administration instead of job care I might mention.

As I was walking this morning it struck me that this is bigger than health care, bigger than a government take-over of yet another aspect of our lives.

Once the Democrats step over the line and do something this huge, this monumentally life-changing for all Americans, what's to stop them from doing it again?

Yes, I know we'll boot them out in November, but they'll still be able to ram through any and everything they want before they walk out the door during the shift change in January 2011.

If they use reconciliation on Healthcare, why not use it to push through Cap & Tax? Immigration? Any other bill Obama, Pelosi and /or Reid want?

Who's to say they won't make changes to skew the elections in November?

Once they use reconciliation for something like healthcare, what are the chances that they'll have a desire to play ball at all? They can just take the ball and roll it any way they want it once they take total control by eliminating our two party system.

And yes, that's exactly what they'll be doing if they use reconciliation to push through the President's health take over plan. We will have a dictatorship of sorts.

If you're watching all the little things they're tweaking and all the major things they're changing, our country is not going to be anything like our founding fathers envisioned when they fought for our independence and freedoms.

We need to make a concerted effort to stop the Democrats and the President from stepping over the reconciliation line. This isn't a "party" issue, this is an across-the-board American issue. Stop them before the power goes to their heads. OK, OK, I hear you, we know they're already high on power. Stop them. Write, call, poke your neighbors, your friends. It's going to take more than petitions, it's going to take action. And no, I don't mean violence or any kind of altercation. I mean getting off our butts and going to town hall meetings. Getting so many people involved they can't ignore us.

I think we've made an error of sorts by concentrating on the politicians. We need to place similar efforts on the media. We need to rally in front of the media outlets. We need to let them know we want fair coverage. We want them to report our angst, our concerns. Carry signs that target politicians and views. Same things we've been doing with our Tea Party / 912 efforts, just meet in front of TV and radio stations rather than at the state capitol. We know they're kind of lazy about coverage, this way all they'll have to do is poke a camera outside the door .

Regarding the Democrats push to say to the country, and the Republicans, "you did it" therefore there's nothing wrong with us doing it, too: One wrong doesn't cancel out another. I've heard and read the arguments on both sides and I can't say I'm happy with either group. One thing I'd like to suggest to my fellow Tea Party / 912-ers is that we ask those running for office to pledge to tighten the language regarding the use of reconciliation.

Stop reconciliation. We can pull back on health care once we change who's in Washington with any luck. However, if we don't stop the Democrats from using the reconciliation tactic we may lose the entire war.

*From Wikipedia: Reconciliation is a legislative process in the United States Senate intended to allow consideration of a contentious budget bill without the threat of filibuster. Introduced in 1974, reconciliation limits debate and amendment, and therefore favors the majority party. Reconciliation also exists in the United States House of Representatives, but because the House regularly passes rules that constrain debate and amendment, the process has had a less significant impact on that body.

A reconciliation instruction (Budget Reconciliation) is a provision in a budget resolution directing one or more committees to submit legislation changing existing law in order to bring spending, revenues, or the debt-limit into conformity with the budget resolution. The instructions specify the committees to which they apply, indicate the appropriate dollar changes to be achieved, and usually provide a deadline by which the legislation is to be reported or submitted.[1]

A reconciliation bill is one containing changes in law recommended pursuant to reconciliation instructions in a budget resolution. If the instructions pertain to only one committee in a chamber, that committee reports the reconciliation bill. If the instructions pertain to more than one committee, the House Budget Committee reports an omnibus reconciliation bill, but it may not make substantive changes in the recommendations of the other committees.[2]

Obama Readies a Fallback Health-Care Proposal

President Barack Obama will use a bipartisan summit Thursday to push for sweeping health-care legislation, but if that fails to generate enough support the White House has prepared the outlines of a more modest plan.

His leading alternate approach would provide health insurance to perhaps 15 million Americans, about half what the comprehensive bill would cover, according to two people familiar with the planning.

White House Health Proposal Claims

Myth vs. Fact: Setting the Record Straight

The White House has made numerous claims about its latest health care proposal, which is largely based on the Senate Democrats’ health care bill. Those assertions, however, are contradicted by the analysis of that legislation by the non-partisan and independent Congressional Budget Office, Joint Committee on Taxation and the Office of the Actuary at the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Below is a list of some of the major myths being spread by the White House:

Myth #1: Insurances premiums will decrease

White House says:

“You will likely pay less---perhaps much less. If you buy coverage like you have today on your own, premiums are expected to drop by 14 to 20 percent. If you get coverage through your job, premiums could decline by up to 3 percent.”

But the facts say:

“CBO and JCT estimate that the average premium per person covered (including dependents) for new nongroup policies would be about 10 percent to 13 percent higher in 2016 than the average premium for nongroup coverage in that same year under current law.”

Myth #2: If you like the coverage you have, you can keep it

White House says:

“Nothing in the health reform bill will require you to change your coverage.”
“The legislation will not cause you to change the coverage you have at work today.”

But the facts say:

“Between 8 million and 9 million other people who would be covered by an employment-based plan under current law would not have an offer of such coverage under the proposal.”

Myth #3: Seniors’ Medicare benefits are protected

White House says:

“Your guaranteed Medicare benefits will not be cut.”
“Health insurance reform will not affect the choice of doctors you have today and it won’t affect your relationship with your doctor.”

But the facts say:

According to the Obama Administration’s own Medicare actuaries, the one-half trillion dollars in Medicare cuts “would cause Medicare payment rates to grow more slowly than…the providers’ cost of furnishing services to beneficiaries. Thus, providers…could find it difficult to remain profitable and might end their participation in the program (possibly jeopardizing access to care for beneficiaries).”

Myth #4: Many small businesses will receive tax breaks

White House says:

“Third, many small businesses will be able to get a tax credit to help cover the cost of the coverage they offer.”
“Your business taxes will not go up. Instead, you may be eligible for new tax credits to help offset the cost of covering your employees.”

But the facts say:

After increasing taxes by almost one half trillion for millions of Americans and small businesses, CBO predicts “A relatively small share (about 12 percent) of people with coverage in the small group market would benefit from that credit in 2016”

Myth #5: Health spending is capped for every American

White House says:

"And for the first time, no one will be required to pay more than a set percentage of their income on health care coverage.”
“For the first time in history, there will be limits on how much anyone will have to pay to receive health care coverage.”

But the facts say:

Only subsidy-eligible individuals would have their premiums and cost-sharing capped as a percentage of income. According to CBO, 90% of Americans would not be eligible for subsidies in 2016 and will not have limits on how much they will have to pay to receive health care coverage.

Myth #6: Those without access to employer-provided health coverage will get tax credits to purchase coverage on their own

White House says:

“Employees at small businesses that don’t offer coverage can get tax credits to purchase coverage.”

But the facts say:

CBO says that a little more than half the individuals purchasing health insurance on their own will be eligible for these subsidies in 2016.

Myth #7: Tens of millions of Americans will receive a tax credit to purchase health care

White House says:

“And depending upon your income, you may be among the tens of millions of Americans who will get a tax credit to help pay for your coverage.”

But the facts say:

According to CBO, less than 15 million of the 254 million people with health coverage in 2016 would be eligible for a subsidy.

GA Secretary of State Kemp Announces Intent to File Suit against Obama Justice Department

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced today that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has again failed to administratively preclear the State of Georgia’s submission of its voter verification process. As a result, the State will exercise its right to seek preclearance of the voter verification process by bringing an action for a declaratory judgment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act requires certain states and jurisdictions, including Georgia, to obtain permission from the federal government prior to enforcing any change affecting any practice or procedure with respect to voting. The State may seek such "preclearance" of a change affecting voting by filing suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia or by submitting the change to the DOJ.

“The State of Georgia will no longer watch the Obama Justice Department play politics with our election processes and protections. The Justice Department is denying Georgia’s legal requirement to verify the information provided by new voter registration applicants,” said Secretary Kemp.

Georgia implemented the voter verification process in April 2007 at the direction of the DOJ in order to comply with requirements in the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA). However, since the 2008 Presidential election, the Justice Department has twice prevented further use of the process.

Given the DOJ’s actions with respect to Georgia's implementation of the voter verification process, Secretary Kemp will ask Attorney General Thurbert Baker to bring a similar declaratory judgment action for preclearance of Senate Bill 86, signed into law in May 2009. Senate Bill 86 requires those registering to vote to submit one of several forms of proof of United States citizenship with their application. Applicants may use a driver’s license number, birth certificate, U.S. passport, U.S. naturalization documents or alien registration number, Bureau of Indian Affairs card as well as other documents.

Secretary Kemp added, “The voter verification process and Senate Bill 86 are common sense measures to ensure voter registration applicants are who they say they are, and that applicants are U.S. citizens.”

Senate Bill 86 was modeled after a similar law in Arizona, which has already received Section 5 preclearance.

Secretary Kemp has asked Attorney General Thurbert Baker to appoint a Special Assistant Attorney General to represent the State in the legal proceedings.

Background:

The voter verification process checks five criteria provided by first time applicants by mail who do not provide identification with the application with information in the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) database or the Social Security Administration database. These criteria include first name, last name, date of birth, driver’s license number and the last four digits of the applicant’s Social Security number. Additionally, if the applicant previously reported to DDS that he or she is not a U.S. citizen, that person is asked by their county registrar to provide proof of citizenship.

Brian Kemp was sworn in as Secretary of State in January 2010. Among the office’s wide-ranging responsibilities, the Secretary of State is charged with conducting efficient and secure elections, the registration of corporations, and the regulation of securities and professional license holders. The office also oversees the Georgia Archives and the Capitol Museum.

President’s Health Care Outline Fails to Address Concerns of American People

Camp, Herger Call for Starting Over with Focus on Lowering Costs

Ways and Means Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI) and Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Wally Herger (R-CA) issued the following statements following the White House’s posting of their outline of the latest version of a $1 trillion government takeover of health care:

Rep. Camp said, “The President told the American people we would see the details of his health care bill, but instead we are just seeing the tip of this iceberg that will sink our economy and wreck the health insurance millions of Americans have and like. This is not a serious attempt to address the concerns the American people have expressed about the Democrats’ bills and does not truly include important policy changes Republicans have been pushing to address them, like ending junk lawsuits that drive up health care costs. Even as the details are still being worked out by Democrats and special interests behind closed doors, it is clear this bill, like the Democrat bills that passed the House and Senate is another massive, government takeover of health care that will increase the cost of health insurance, explode the deficit, and slash Medicare benefits. There is still time to wipe the slate clean and start over on a set of common sense reforms that will lower health care costs. I hope the President and Democrats in Congress will agree to do so before Thursday’s summit. That is what the American people want and what Republicans have offered and will continue to work for.”

Rep. Herger added, “I’m disappointed that the President is continuing to ignore that the American people have fundamentally rejected this bill. His proposal is more of the same government intrusion and high taxes that have been the dominant themes of his health care plan since day one. By staying the course toward government-run health care, the President is demonstrating that the upcoming health care summit and his rhetoric about working with Republicans to find solutions is purely for show. It’s time to start over and allow the public to have a seat at the table.”

Obama scares the crud out of me...

You'd think that Obama's plan to take over health care (and run it as efficiently as the IRS or Postal system...) was enough to scare the you-know-what out of me...

Add that to TARP, Stimulus Sr., and son of Stimulus yet to come, Cap & Tax, infiltrating our schools to further brainwash our children with climate change, my mommy is a daddy, let me take your pencils and give them to needy kids, etc., etc., (the list is long). and our current day Obamian world has the makings of "1984" on steroids.

Now they're thinking about taking our pensions, our IRAs, our 401k plans...

Ya know folks, you better shake your neighbors, get them to look beyond taking the kiddies to school or growing that beautiful garden. If this guy and his minions have their way, we are going to be someday living in a world where the government controls everything right down to what we're allowed to grow in our tiny gov't-issued plot.

Are the Democrats Coming After Your Savings?
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/02/025646.php

Beginning around 40 years ago, the federal government implemented one of the wisest domestic policy initiatives of modern times. In an effort to equalize the tax treatment of employees and self-employed individuals, a series of statutes permitted self-employed persons to save pre-tax money for retirement and to accumulate funds in retirement accounts that are not taxed until money is withdrawn post-retirement. Those programs have been broadened over the years to include employees, as well as the self-employed, in 401K accounts....

...Now, the Democrats may be poised to imitate Argentina's theft. Investor's Business Daily reports:

You did the responsible thing. You saved in your IRA or 401(k) to support your retirement, when you could have spent that money on another vacation, or an upscale car, or fancier clothes and jewelry. But now Washington is developing plans for your retirement savings.

BusinessWeek reports that the Treasury and Labor departments are asking for public comment on "the conversion of 401(k) savings and Individual Retirement Accounts into annuities or other steady payment streams."

In plain English, the idea is for the government to take your retirement savings in return for a promise to pay you some monthly benefit in your retirement years.

They will tell you that you are "investing" your money in U.S. Treasury bonds. But they will use your money immediately to pay for their unprecedented trillion-dollar budget deficits, leaving nothing to back up their political promises, just as they have raided the Social Security trust funds.

In other words, the government will allow you the "opportunity" to give Washington your savings, in return for which the government will give you unmarketable T-bills or other unreliable promises to pay some minimal rate of return...

Michele Bachmann: Congress Will Implement "Trick" to Pass Health Care Reform

Well, so much for a bipartisan strategy session on health care. Despite calls from the White House about bringing Republicans to the table to get their ideas into the debate, it looks like Democrats have already decided on a plan to pass their original legislation. Legislation Americans have soundly rejected from coast to coast.

Speaking at the National Health Policy Conference hosted by Academy Health and Health Affairs, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's senior health care adviser Wendell Primus said that Democratic leaders in Congress will implement a legislative "trick" to pass their very unpopular version of health care reform.

Mark Tapscott with the Washington Examiner writes that Congress Daily, which originally published the story, is a subscription-only publication, but provided a link to LifeNews.com, which provided these details:

"In comments reported by Congress Daily, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s top health care aide Wendell Primus admitted top Democrats have already decided on the strategy to pass the Senate's pro-abortion, government-run health care bill.

"Primus explained that the Senate will use the controversial reconciliation strategy that will have the House approve the Senate bill and both the House and Senate okaying changes to the bill that the Senate will sign off on by preventing Republicans from filibustering.

'The trick in all of this is that the president would have to sign the Senate bill first, then the reconciliation bill second, and the reconciliation bill would trump the Senate bill.

“'There's a certain skill, there's a trick, but I think we'll get it done,' Primus said."

Why propose a televised, bipartisan meeting on February 25th if the underlying plan has been to pass the Democrats' original health care proposal all along? Well, it's simple. President Obama wants to give the appearance of bipartisan cooperation without really caring at all. It's one PR stunt after another with this White House, and this latest action is a clear assault on the intelligence of the American people.

The Democratic leadership of this Congress and White House simply refuses to take no for an answer when it comes to a government takeover of your health care. They simply refuse to consider any idea being proposed by me or any of my Republican colleagues. Is this the leadership you want in Washington, or more importantly, the leadership you deserve?

Sarah and Bristol Palin re: Fox Show, Family Guy

People are asking me to comment on yesterday’s Fox show that felt like another kick in the gut. Bristol was one who asked what I thought of the show that mocked her baby brother, Trig (and/or others with special needs), in an episode yesterday. Instead of answering, I asked her what she thought. Here is her conscientious reply, which is a much more restrained and gracious statement than I want to make about an issue that begs the question, “when is enough, enough?”:

“When you’re the son or daughter of a public figure, you have to develop thick skin. My siblings and I all have that, but insults directed at our youngest brother hurt too much for us to remain silent. People with special needs face challenges that many of us will never confront, and yet they are some of the kindest and most loving people you’ll ever meet. Their lives are difficult enough as it is, so why would anyone want to make their lives more difficult by mocking them? As a culture, shouldn’t we be more compassionate to innocent people – especially those who are less fortunate? Shouldn’t we be willing to say that some things just are not funny? Are there any limits to what some people will do or say in regards to my little brother or others in the special needs community? If the writers of a particularly pathetic cartoon show thought they were being clever in mocking my brother and my family yesterday, they failed. All they proved is that they’re heartless jerks. - Bristol Palin”

Steve Maloney on Katherine Jenerette and Katie Hastings O'Malley

Can we defeat Obama's, Pelosi's, and Reid's radical agenda -- their mindless effort to shove our country toward national socialism and military weakness?

"Yes, we can" by getting behind charismatic, conservative leaders like Katherine Jenerette of SC and Katie Hastings O'Malley of NYC. Katherine Jenerette, mother of four, is a Republican congressional candidate from SC's 1st district; Katie Hastings O'Malley, also a mom of many, is a fine conservative writer for Human Events (and other publications) -- as well as a fundraiser for nonprofit organizations. Both women are my friends . . . and my inspirations. They're dedicated to taking our country back.

Katherine Jenerette for U.S Congress (contributions)http://www.jenerette.com/2010_bio/index.html (biography)

Katherine is running against the usual "family dynasty" candidates, one the son of Strom Thurmond and one (a guy named "Tumpy") who's the son of a former Governor. If either of these men win, one thing's guaranteed: he will go to DC and do a great imitation of Rip van Winkle. Katherine can win -- and will deliver a major wake-up call to Congress.

Katherine's a commissioned Army Officer, a paratrooper, and a college history teacher. Katie is not only a first-class writer (see below), but also a tireless advocate for military causes. How conservative are they? Very much so.

Katie (I'm not making this up) has a tattoo of Ronald Reagan on her back. That's conservative indeed.

Katherine essentially wants to go to Washington with a giant "STOP" sign to hold in front of Obama and Pelosi.

Katherine is running against men who are the darlings of special interest groups. She's conducting a powerful grassroots campaign based heavily on support from the Tea Party groups and other activists. Can she win? If American patriots -- that is, people just like us -- give her their support, including financial backing, she will win, and that will mean our America wins. Her motto is "This House [the one in DC] is your House."

I know Katherine well, and she means exactly what she says.

She needs your support. And I deeply believe she deserves it. She's been called "a Southern Sarah Palin" and "a female version of Scott Brown."

Katie Hastings O'Malley, with her Reagan tattoo, might add that Katherine has Reagan-like qualities, including a deep love of her country and the traditional values our former President embodied.

Please do two things: contribute to Katherine's campaign . . . and familiarize yourself with Katie O'Malley's writing.

You can donate by clicking on the following: Katherine Jenerette for U.S Congress After you contribute (and any amount you can afford will be just fine), please "get to know" Katie O'Malley by going to her report on the Tea Party Convention, which also contains several links to other fine articles she's written.

Who’s Partying in Nashville? - HUMAN EVENTS

The following are two short excerpts from Katie O'Malley's piece on the Tea Party get-together in Nashville: ["Tea Party Convention Planner] Judson Phillips ceded the stage to Andrew Breitbart of Breitbart.com. Breitbart addressed the media directly. “The same Mainstream Media that talks about McCarthyism practices the most virulent form. We are creating our own media.” "Activists have taken the leadership and ideas promoted at the convention to heart. Kelly, from upstate New York, spent time on the phone with folks back home. 'There are three hundred elderly women back home, women who voted for Obama, who are watching the coverage on CSPAN. They want me to come back home and share with them what I have learned here and they want to then take that to the rest of the people in their community.'"

Who’s Partying in Nashville? - HUMAN EVENTS

Get to know these two remarkable women.

If we all work together, as we did with Scott Brown, we will win together.

God bless all of you.
