Disclose Act moving ahead...

Rules Committee Meeting On DISCLOSE Act

By Reid Wilson

The House Rules Committee will meet today to formulate guidelines for a campaign finance bill aimed at increasing disclosure requirements as Dem leadership makes a final push toward getting the bill through the House. The DISCLOSE Act is likely to hit the floor on Thursday, according to multiple Dem sources. But aides aren't certain it has the votes to pass yet. A series of meetings with key constituencies within the Dem caucus today, leadership aides hope, will be enough to clear the final hurdles.

Stop the Disclose Act!!! Action needed now...

Fellow Tea Party Patriots,

DISCLOSE ACT is back on the calendar for tomorrow June 23, 2010! We must stop this 1st Amendment killing legislation. They are trying to stop our voices! Please call these Congressmen and tell them to Vote No on DISCLOSE ACT!

We have received information from Capitol Hill regarding the "Disclose Act" and we must work to defeat this bill. The vote is expected to take place tonight or tomorrow. We encourage you to find out more information about the DISCLOSE Act in the links below.

On April 29, 2010, Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) introduced H.R. 5175, the Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections (DISCLOSE) Act. The bill is a direct response to Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (McCain- Feingold) - a First Amendment victory in which the Supreme Court overturned the prohibition on corporations and unions using treasury funds for independent expenditures supporting or opposing political candidates at any time of the year. Simply put, the DISCLOSE Act will limit the political speech that was protected and encouraged by Citizens United.

Speaker Pelosi and the House Majority Leadership are making it a priority to pass this bill. This bill is designed to take away the influence of Tea Party and other conservative groups in the upcoming November election. We feel like this bill will be successfully challenged in the courts, but the ruling will not come before the November election.

An exemption has been carved out for the Labor Unions and other leftist advocacy groups. The NRA was also exempted so they would not actively oppose it.

Roll Call Magazine reports today that they have carved out even deeper exemptions in order to assure passage and we believe it clearly shows the intent of the bill is to diminish the effectiveness of Tea Party groups and other newer conservative advocacy groups.

"Facing wide-ranging blowback from an exemption tailored for the National Rifle Association, House Democratic leaders have decided to expand the carve-out from disclosure requirements in a campaign finance measure they are trying to pass this week.

The new standard lowers the membership requirement for outside groups from 1 million members to 500,000. Those groups would still need to have members in 50 states, have existed for 10 years and can accept no more than 15 percent of their funding from corporate or union sources. The broader bill, called the DISCLOSE Act, comes in response to the controversial Supreme Court decision in January that struck down limits on corporate and union spending in elections. The bill would force groups participating in elections to name their top donors, among other changes."

We need you to make phone calls, send emails and faxes and urge the Congressmen listed below to vote no on this bill.
Together, we can make a difference!

Congress wants to make you shut up. Will you let them?

Fearful of what Election Day in November will bring them, liberals in Congress are pushing H.R. 5175, the "DISCLOSE Act," a bill disguised as campaign finance reform, but which is really designed to protect incumbents during the current election year.

Instead of addressing the problems often found in the financing of campaigns, H.R. 5175 adds to the already onerous burdens placed on law-abiding organizations by exposing their donors in places like TV, radio and newspaper ads. The bill exposes the hypocrisy of its supporters by giving special treatment to favored special interests, even though the bill is designed to crack down on the power of many other special interests!

These tactics are used to intimidate donors. They were used in the 1960s during the Civil Rights struggles, and more recently have been employed against Christians in states like Massachusetts, California and Maine for merely voicing their beliefs on marriage being between one man and one woman.

Now the Democrats want to intimidate you into silence as well!

The goal behind this bill, written by the head of the Democratic Congressional Committee and a liberal Republican who fears a primary challenge, is to influence this election in particular. Liberals are well aware that the DISCLOSE Act is unconstitutional. They know that the courts may eventually overturn the law, but not before November 2nd, 2010 -- election day. By then, the damage to free speech will have already been done.

Please contact your House Member today and tell him to oppose H.R. 5175, the DISCLOSE Act.

Thank you and God bless you.

Please contact your U.S. House Member to oppose H.R. 5175, the "DISCLOSE Act" -- a bill designed to protect 2010 incumbents.

Sincerely,

Tony Perkins
President

Stop "Disclose Act" HR5175

Disclose Act (HR5175):
VOTE NO To a Ban On Political Free Speech

Hello Intelligent Thinkers,

Soon, the House is expected to vote on a controversial bill that would ban certain government contractors, corporations, and nonprofit organizations from engaging in any political speech.

This "Disclose Act" (HR5175) aims to deter the criticism of incumbents, ban independent political advocacy by corporations, nonprofits and associations, and impose burdensome disclosure requirements. Of course UNIONS would be exempt from most of the provisions of the bill since unions support Democrats almost exclusively. Read more here...

Please call your US House Member now and urge them to VOTE NO to the "Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections (DISCLOSE) Act". It is just another way for government to deny Americans their freedom of speech.

Support Christine O'Donnell in Delaware!

Dear Friends:

If we can energize activists around the country (i.e., people like you) and, especially, those in Delaware, Christine O'Donnell will be the next US Senator from Delaware. She would be one of the most conservative -- and pro-American -- Senators.

Several people who played major roles in the victories of Scott Brown in MA and Charles Djou in HI are working full-time on Christine's campaign. There is a real sense of urgency in making sure she wins.

A key development this week was Christine's Money-Bomb; it will continue through today (Friday), and I hope you will: (1) contribute as generously as you can; (2) make all your contacts aware of the importance of ensuring Christine has the funds necessary to win. http://christine2010.com.

Those of us who know Christine believe she may be the best Republican candidate running this year for the US Senate. The pieces that appeared this week in RedState.com reinforce that view. The more people that see these pieces, the more likely it is that Christine will win both the primary (Sept. 14) and, seven weeks later, the general election. Christine O’Donnell: Why I’m running for U.S. Senate | RedState

Several people have asked about the campaign strategy, whether it's a "national" approach or a state-focused one. The answer is: it's both. As Christine's candidacy gets national attention, positive information and vitality will flow into Delaware, and conservative activists -- aware of the race's importance -- will contribute much-needed funds.

However, make no mistake, people outside the state will not cast one vote in the election. There will be an absolute necessity for Christine and her surrogates to be constant presences in Delaware, attracting not only Republican votes, but also Independents and many Democrats. We will need a ground game of unpredented magnitude and intensity to win, and we fully expect to have both.

It will be no "easier" for us to win in Delaware than it will for candidates like Pat Toomey in PA, Carly Fiorina in CA, Sharron Angle in NV, or Marco Rubio in FL to prevail. Like those candidates, we can win if we "do it right." The "we" in the previous sentence turns out to be "you," the activists who support Christine.

We need hundreds (and preferably thousands) of people on-the-ground in Delaware -- both before and after the Sept. 14 primary. I've been asking people to commit to coming to Delaware (in conjunction with the 8/28 and 9/12 events in DC). I'm hoping that a lot of people who never thought they'd get to see beautiful Delaware -- "the First State" -- will end up doing just that.

What's at stake in Delaware -- and in states like PA, CA, and FL -- is nothing less than our country. That's why we're hoping people will spend a day, or two, or more of their vacation campaigning in Delaware for Christine O'Donnell. An unpredented crisis in our country demands unprecedented actions -- and unprecedented sacrifices -- by Patriots -- that is, by you.

So, please contribute to Christine's campaign today (or, at the latest this weekend. Please consider donating $10 a month at: http://christine2010.com. Also, please think about coming to Delaware, as so many of you did in MA with Scott Brown.

Extraordinary times demand extraordinary responses. On Wednesday, Nov. 3, the day after the election, we'll know if we have gotten our America back -- or if we haven't. God bless you all.

Fox vs CNN

I was out of town Memorial Day weekend, staying in a hotel. As I got ready to leave for my show on Saturday morning I did my usual and flipped on Fox News to see what was going on in the world. Fox was talking about a protest rally in Arizona against the illegal immigration bill they recently passed. After talking about it for a moment they then shared that there would also be a pro-bill rally by Tea Party activists. Fair and balanced.

I then went down for the freebie breakfast where CNN was playing. I munched on a bad breakfast while watching their "news". Ta da, they were also covering the protest rallies in Arizona... oops, take out the plural form there... make that "rally". They talked about the protest rally AGAINST the bill. No mention whatsoever of the PRO rally, or the Tea Party...

Fair and balanced? Hmmph... no way. Failing and Biased might be a better descriptor for CNN...

Romanoff Says White House Offered Job to Leave Race

Colorado U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff (D) confirmed that White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina "suggested three administration jobs that would be available to him last September if he dropped his plans to run against U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet," Politico reports.

Ben Smith notes the admission shows governance "at its most transactional. But it's also a sign of something else: How little Establishment Democrats like Romanoff fear the White House. It's a remarkable act of defiance."
