The political action committee behind the Tea Party Express (TPE) -- which already has been slammed as inauthentic and corporate-controlled by rival factions in the Tea Party movement -- directed almost two thirds of its spending during a recent reporting period back to the Republican consulting firm that created the PAC in the first place.
Our Country Deserves Better (OCDB) spent around $1.33 million from July through November, according to FEC filings examined by TPMmuckraker. Of that sum, a total of $857,122 went to Sacramento-based GOP political consulting firm Russo, Marsh, and Associates, or people associated with it.

Your tax dollars at work...
Wonder what the tag on this one will be??? Guess it's keeping government employees busy and allowing them to keep taking home a steady paycheck. Wonder if it's going to cost them anything to be at the Super Bowl and NCAA Final Four? Usually at these events advertisers / participants pay a premium rate rather than standard. I wonder if the Census group falls under the same category as other exempted groups so they only pay the lowest regular rate charged? Be interesting to find out just how much this is going to cost us... and an interesting debate as to whether it's necessary.

Chambliss: This Bill is a Political Victory, Not a Substantive One
U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., today made the following statement regarding the Senate health care bill, which now costs $2.5 trillion, is 2,733 pages long, and includes $518.5 billion in tax increases and $470.7 billion in Medicare cuts.
“I am supportive of reforming health care so that all Americans have access to affordable, quality care. However, a bill created by backroom deal-making, partisan arm-twisting and special carve-outs for wavering senators does not represent meaningful reform.
“The already-strained budgets of individuals, families and small businesses will be pushed to the breaking point by the increase in taxes and increased costs for medical devices and medicine. The health care industry itself will also feel more than $100 billion in taxes and fees, which will be shifted directly to the American people in the form of higher premiums.
“Over the past few weeks, several amendments were offered to strip the Medicare cuts and cuts to other critical health care programs, but unfortunately, those votes fell along party lines and the amendments failed. Several other amendments to improve the bill, like a tort reform measure I introduced, weren’t even allowed to be called up for a vote.
“The process used to get this bill to 60 votes was unlike anything I had never seen before. Deals were cut behind closed doors for individual senators and their states at the expense of taxpayers across the nation – and that’s just not right. The majority leader also made a compromise on abortion – where, morally, there can be no compromise – to get his 60th vote.
“And after all this, the health care bill does not even cover everyone. Some 23 million Americans will still be left uninsured.
“Americans are right to demand access to affordable health care. But the Senate bill is bad legislation. It is a political victory – not a substantive one – that will actually make health care more expensive.

Sam Olens Makes Official Request to Georgia AG to Review Constitutionality of H.R. 3590
Cobb County Commission Chair and candidate for Attorney General Sam Olens has submitted a letter to Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker requesting that he join with the Attorney Generals of South Carolina and at least six other States, to review the constitutionality of H.R. 3590, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
With the final deal assuring Senator Ben Nelson's vote, all newly eligible Medicaid enrollees from Nebraska would be permanently treated differently than those from the other 49 States. While Medicaid is a joint federal-state program, the Nebraska Compromise provides for a permanent exemption to his State alone. Said provision appears to violate the U.S. Constitution as all states would not be uniformly treated the same with this new tax.
"It is a felony to buy votes in this country. That same prohibition must apply to our legislators. All legal options must be considered and applied to stop this outrage."
Georgians cannot afford the many new taxes associated with this bill, let alone a special provision that lets us pay for citizens of another state, stated Olens.

I saw the comment from Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue. He, along with other Governors from both parties are not happy with this farce of a health care bill and they're joining forces to combat it also.
I think a backlash to beat all backlashes is in the works on the way this has been manipulated, the way the American public --- the majority of American voters --- have been ignored and mistreated.

HAVANA, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Cuba accused U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday of being "imperial, arrogant" and dishonest during last week's global climate conference in the latest sign of deteriorating relations between Havana and Washington.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said in a televised press conference that Obama lied during the United Nations summit in Copenhagen and is making a habit of it after less than a year in office.
"He lies all the time, deceives with demagogic words, with profound cynicism," Rodriguez told reporters.

Chambliss: It is Clear that Deals Have Been Cut to Get 60 Votes on this Bill
U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., today on the Senate floor, spoke out against the latest version of the health care bill, which now includes 2,733 pages and costs $2.5 trillion.
At 1:00 a.m., the Senate is expected to vote to cut off debate on Reid's manager’s amendment to the health care legislation. Chambliss will vote against the motion to end debate.
“Federal taxes will increase by almost $26 billion under the manager’s package,” said Chambliss. “Still, under the Reid amendment, there will be 23 million Americans left uninsured. That’s not what we've heard from day one from the folks on the other side of the aisle about making sure that every single American was covered.”
Chambliss also voiced opposition to the creation of a new entitlement program on the backs of current Medicare recipients, the Community Living and Assistance Services and Supports Act, or CLASS Act, as proposed in this bill. The Congressional Budget Office has said that the CLASS Act will actually end up increasing budget deficits.
“The CLASS Act is a new Medicare – a new health care entitlement program that has been included in this bill. The Congressional Budget Office recognizes that when these benefits start paying out, this is going to blow the budget. How anyone can say with a straight face that we are going to reduce the deficit by passing this legislation is beyond me.”
Chambliss also addresses the abortion language included in the bill.
“I’m pro-life and very proud to have a strong voting record opposing abortion. The law of the land for well over 30 years has stated that no federal funds should be used to fund abortions. We should not compromise on the sanctity of life.”
In closing, Chambliss blasted the deals that have been cut with senators to win their vote for the bill.
“We've reached a new day in this body. There have been deals cut behind closed doors that are going to provide benefits for individual senators and their states, whether it's Vermont, Nebraska, or Florida. That's going to require those of us who didn't have the opportunity to participate in discussions and negotiations on this bill to represent citizens who are going to have to pay more for services that select states are going to receive. It is five days before Christmas and it looks as if the Scrooges in DC aren't packing it up and going home. Instead, they have decided to call Ba-humbug and pass this legislation that 61% of Americans do not support.
This past week, even Howard Dean came out and said it was not good for this country because it is a bailout for big insurance companies. On Thursday, MoveOn.org sent a message to their members that they do not want the legislation passed either and that they should stand with Howard Dean. Just yesterday, Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, sold his soul to the devil by agreeing to a deal that will benefit his home state.
As you know, the Scrooges in DC don't seem to care what their constituents want them to do.
Instead, they are making these back room deals with Harry Reid so they can get this legislation passed and President Obama can address the nation in January and tell us this was an accomplishment because it is what is good for America. According to Politico, many Senators cut deals for their states in exchange for their vote to pass this legislation.
Friends, we know that this is not good for America! We must not back down and do not ever give up on fighting for our freedom. It is not over!Yes, it is five days before Christmas, but we will still stand and fight together. There are still things we can do to say NO to this atrocity.

Please make it a priority to visit one of the local, district offices and deliver a letter telling them you are against a government takeover of health care. A personal visit and handwritten letter carry more weight than any other form of communication with an elected official. We still have time, but we must act within the next four days.

Friends, as I started to write this action alert, I wanted to make sure that we were sending a positive message. I don't want you to think all we are doing is complaining. We are all mad as hell, but we must stay focused on the end game. We have all worked tirelessly to have our voices heard and yes, we feel like they are not listening. However, they are listening because if they weren't, this legislation would have been passed months ago. We are making a difference and it make take us a while, but we can take back this country. If you think about where we are right now, we did not get here overnight and we are not going to be able to reverse step overnight. This past week, even Howard Dean came out and said it was not good for this country because it is a bailout for big insurance companies. On Thursday, MoveOn.org sent a message to their members that they do not want the legislation passed either and that they should stand with Howard Dean. Just yesterday, Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, sold his soul to the devil by agreeing to a deal that will benefit his home state.
As you know, the Scrooges in DC don't seem to care what their constituents want them to do.
Instead, they are making these back room deals with Harry Reid so they can get this legislation passed and President Obama can address the nation in January and tell us this was an accomplishment because it is what is good for America. According to Politico, many Senators cut deals for their states in exchange for their vote to pass this legislation.
Friends, we know that this is not good for America! We must not back down and do not ever give up on fighting for our freedom. It is not over!Yes, it is five days before Christmas, but we will still stand and fight together. There are still things we can do to say NO to this atrocity.

Friends, as I started to write this action alert, I wanted to make sure that we were sending a positive message. I don't want you to think all we are doing is complaining. We are all mad as hell, but we must stay focused on the end game. We have all worked tirelessly to have our voices heard and yes, we feel like they are not listening. Isakson: Health Care Bill Is Bad for America
Says Democrats Turned Debate into 'Let's Make a Deal' to Win Votes
U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today attacked the latest version of the Democrats’ terribly flawed, 2,733-page health care bill that will raise taxes, raise premiums, cut benefits for seniors and place a massive unfunded mandate on the states.
The Senate is expected to vote at 1 a.m. on Monday to end debate on Democratic Leader Harry Reid's “manager’s amendment” to the health care legislation. Isakson will vote against the motion to end debate. Once fully implemented in 2014, the proposal would cost an estimated $2.5 trillion over 10 years. Monday's vote is expected to be the first of several votes leading up to a final vote on health care reform in the Senate on Christmas Eve.
“Democrats cannot hide the fact that when you're raising the type of revenues in this bill, that money is ultimately going to be paid by the consumer. Any time government raises taxes it raises the cost of living for the American people,” Isakson said. “It's a ruse and a masking of the actual fiscal effect on the United States of America. This has not been a thoughtful process, and it is an unfortunate way to do business.”
The legislation includes $518.5 billion in tax increases and over $470 billion in Medicare cuts for seniors, including $120 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage. Isakson opposes creating new programs with these Medicare “savings” rather than making a commitment to preserve and improve Medicare and prevent its impending 2017 bankruptcy.
“We're going to take $470 billion from Medicare, and we are going to put it in a plan to pay for somebody else's health care,” Isakson said. “That's patently wrong.”
Isakson also criticized the lack of transparency as the legislation was drafted and the backroom deals that Democratic Leader Reid, D-Nev., made with certain Senate Democrats in order to secure their votes on his health care proposal.
For example, Georgia and most states will face billions of dollars in massive unfunded mandates to cover the cost of the proposed expansion of Medicaid contained in the bill. However, in order to win the vote of Senator Ben Nelson, D-Neb., Reid inserted a provision in the bill that says the federal government would cover the cost of all new Medicaid beneficiaries in Nebraska, saving that state tens of millions of dollars.
“In a time of declining revenues and greater pressure, that is a recipe for disaster,” Isakson said. “It's not fair to say we're covering more people if we are bankrupting our states.”
In addition, to appease Senator Bill Nelson, D-Fla., Reid agreed to insert a provision that says Medicare Advantage plans in Florida would receive an additional payment in order to preserve current levels of benefits. As a result, seniors in Florida would not be subject to the significant cuts facing Medicare Advantage beneficiaries in Georgia and other states.
“This bill dissolved into a game of ‘Let's Make a Deal,’” Isakson said.
Despite the $2.5 trillion cost, an estimated 23 million Americans would still be left without health insurance.

Senator Robert Casey Jr. was elected in 2006, defeating then Senator Rick Santorum, a longtime friend of pro-family and pro-life causes. Pro-Troop Group Says Repatriating Yemenis Will Result in Loss of Innocent Lives
The largest pro-troop grassroots group in the nation, Move America Forward, was appalled to learn that the Obama administration is preparing to release six Yemenis and four Afghans to the Yemini government soon.
Terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda have a well documented history of taking advantage of the political instability in Yemen to use it as a training base or temporary safe haven for terrorists hiding or on their way to other battlefields.
“Transferring these terrorists back to Yemen or back to any of their home countries is extremely dangerous, and will almost certainly cause more American deaths and the deaths of other innocents, sadly,” said Danny Gonzalez, Director of Communications for the group. “We have had horrible luck, from the Bush administration to the Obama administration, with releasing these GITMO detainees. An alarming number of them, verifiably, return to terror.”
Gonzalez continued, “We have seen then show up in Al Qaeda propaganda videos, captured on the battlefield again, or we hear about them taking part in another bombing or kidnapping. Ultimately the safest place for these murders is Guantanamo Bay.”
In 2008 Move America Forward led a delegation on a 3 day tour of the facility at Guantanamo Bay.
They concluded that the facility at GITMO was professionally run and operating under the guidelines of all international laws and treaties.

Not that he's really doing so. I understand the headline is really referring to the global communities inability to come to an agreement on how to stop what they scream is the end of the world... How come in the movies they always figure out a way to save the world at the end (cough, cough)? What a bunch of hooey... not just the Hollywood movies, but the whole global warming-now-climate-change-since-it's-getting-colder scheme. Don't ya think that if the world really was going to go belly up in five years, or whatever the latest estimate from "scientists" (cough, cough again) might be, that somehow they'd take the "can't we all just get along" route to survive?
I guess there's probably a contingency that would say that to China and other countries climate change doesn't matter that much, they'll survive, won't hurt the way they're working, they can clean it all up once climate change destroys the American and European economies. Thus they don't need to bargain. (Just tossed that in there because I know some climate change freak is gonna comment on this post... it's a religion that brings out the worst in some.)
Course, we all know none of this climate change stuff really has nothing to do with "climate change", it's another kind of change Obama is working toward!
Hopefully we'll soon see a headline similar to this: Obama: Democrat capacity to screw up health care 'stopped cold' and then maybe "Obama: We have decided not to kill what remains of the American economy by implementing cap and trade or card check"....

Nelson-Hatch-Casey Health Care Bill Amendment
The Senate version of the Health Care bill is currently under consideration.
On December 8th, the Senate voted to table the Nelson-Hatch-Casey amendment, which would have maintained existing law by prohibiting both federal funding of abortion and government-mandated abortion coverage.
The next thing that will happen is a floor vote on the Senate version of the bill. The defeat of the Nelson-Hatch-Casey amendment means that the Senate version of the bill includes taxpayer-funded abortion. When the vote will happen is uncertain, some say before Christmas...others say after the New Year.
One thing is for certain:
NOW is the time for you to contact your Senators and tell them to vote NO for the Senate version of the Health Care bill. For the most part, the votes have gone along party lines, with a few exceptions. You can find the complete roll call here:

4-Star Gen. McCaffrey Back From Afghanistan...

Barry McCaffrey (Ret), a former Gulf War commander, SouthCom Commander, and U.S. National Drug Policy Director, now Adjunct Professor of International Affairs at West Point, has issued a comprehensive assessment, report, and recommendations on the situation in Afghanistan following a week long-visit.
During his mission, conducted for the U.S. Military Academy, McCaffrey toured the region and met with senior military officials including General David Petraeus and General Stanley McChrystal, attended a Joint Command briefing, met with the ISAF Strategic Advisory Board, top Afghanistan officials, U.S. diplomats including Ambassador Karl Eikenberry, and law enforcement officials.

Among Gen. McCaffrey's findings:
* The President's strategy speech at West Point was "coherent, logical, and sincere."
* A successful strategy will require three to ten years "to build a viable Afghan state with their own security force that can allow us to withdraw. We are likely to suffer thousands more U.S. casualties."
* One of the most important concerns is the stability of Pakistan.
* "We are vulnerable in our Afghanistan operation.... There is little question that Pakistan offers de facto sanctuary to the Taliban.... The Pakistani Army is fighting their own Taliban for the future of the nation."
* "The Taliban believe they are winning in Afghanistan. The Taliban now have a serious presence in 160 districts of 364 -- up from 30 in 2003. In July alone they employed 828 IED attacks. We should expect 5700 IED attacks by year's end 2009."
* "The Afghan National Army is a growing success story," but "the Afghan National police are badly equipped, corrupt (7300 fired in last two years), and untrained." 4-Star Gen. McCaffrey Back From Afghanistan...

Barry McCaffrey (Ret), a former Gulf War commander, SouthCom Commander, and U.S. National Drug Policy Director, now Adjunct Professor of International Affairs at West Point, has issued a comprehensive assessment, report, and recommendations on the situation in Afghanistan following a week long-visit.
During his mission, conducted for the U.S. Military Academy, McCaffrey toured the region and met with senior military officials including General David Petraeus and General Stanley McChrystal, attended a Joint Command briefing, met with the ISAF Strategic Advisory Board, top Afghanistan officials, U.S. diplomats including Ambassador Karl Eikenberry, and law enforcement officials.

Among Gen. McCaffrey's findings:
* The President's strategy speech at West Point was "coherent, logical, and sincere."
* A successful strategy will require three to ten years "to build a viable Afghan state with their own security force that can allow us to withdraw. We are likely to suffer thousands more U.S. casualties."
* One of the most important concerns is the stability of Pakistan.
* "We are vulnerable in our Afghanistan operation.... There is little question that Pakistan offers de facto sanctuary to the Taliban.... The Pakistani Army is fighting their own Taliban for the future of the nation."
* "The Taliban believe they are winning in Afghanistan. The Taliban now have a serious presence in 160 districts of 364 -- up from 30 in 2003. In July alone they employed 828 IED attacks. We should expect 5700 IED attacks by year's end 2009."

It all started with Tax Day Tea Party 2009, which brought approximately a million Americans out to support the American liberty movement and oppose the outrageous growth of our federal government and the associated threats on our long-held American liberties.
On April 15, 2010, the movement continues at the U.S. Capitol and Washington Mall in Washington, D.C. with Tax Day Tea Party II. Quite simply, Tax Day Tea Party II will be the largest Tea Party ever held, and we expect it may well be the largest gathering ever of Americans in the nation’s capital.
Over this past year, the Tea Party movement has emerged as one of the most effective, influential and burgeoning forces in modern American politics. On April 15, 2010, at the U.S. Capitol and Washington Mall, as we believe is entirely possible, it will take its next step forward, bringing the liberty message right to the doorsteps of the elected officials that have been driving America down the road of statism and socialism.
How can you help?
The Tea Party movement is a movement of the American people and for the American people, so our future and success rests with you. Right now, if you want to help us as we prepare for this massive April 15, 2010 Tea Party in Washington, D.C., there are two things you can you do. Others may choose to drive. And for those interested, we anticipate helping organize and support groups in organizing buses of attendees (a typical bus can seat approximately 45 people).
How important is this?
It cannot be said emphatically enough: American liberty is under assault by this administration and Congress. That’s the bad news. The good news, as has been widely acknowledged by political leaders and media, is that the Tea Party movement has succeeded in slowing down the federal government’s rush to socialism. We have held at bay some of the worst pieces of legislation in American history, including Obamacare and Cap and Trade.
It’s also important to remember that this is a battle that will have winners and losers. This administration and Congress has been very forthright in pursuing a transformation of America that would move our nation substantially and permanently away from the sort of government and nation envisioned by our founding fathers. We are equally determined to ensure that the founding vision of our nation and the letter of the Constitution is preserved for this and future generations. But whether we win or lose this battle rests largely on you. A well-attended, successful Tax Day Tea Party II on April 15, 2010 will send a message heading in to the 2010 elections that Americans value and will defend their liberty. So how important is this? We believe it is no exagerration to say that the very freedom and future of our nation rides on whether we succeed or fail.

Roaring Silence
Across the country people are roaring. They are writing, calling, getting involved... groups like the Tea Party Patriots and the 912 project are springing up... people are picketing, meeting, protesting... grandparents are canceling AARP, turning of Letterman, tuning into talk radio... college students are organizing... mothers and fathers are pulling their kids out of school...
America is roaring.
Right now we seem to be roaring in silence.
Those in Washington are ignoring us. The mainstream media is ignoring us and they are ignoring news that doesn't fit the agenda. Obama, Pelosi and Reid act like we're a buzzing mosquito: irritating but they have bug spray and swatters if we get too loud or close.
We're just going to have to roar louder. We're going to have to up our game and coordinate better. Right now we all kinds of groups forming, all with great ideas and great motivation. We're fired up.
One thing that can hurt us as we all move forward is the big fish, small pond syndrome. Everyone wanting to be top dog, start the movement that's going to topple the "regime".
Another that can kill an organization faster than Obama and friends is our natural tendency to splinter over differences. We have to learn to work together, to ignore those pesky differences that don't matter in the big scheme of things. We have to keep our eye on the proverbial ball.
We need to always look at the big picture. We also have to check our egos at the door.
The reason our local Republican Party is so fractured, so ineffective is that everyone in the organization seems to want to be the chief. For many it's their life, their validation of who they are, that they're important. So many petty little things keep the group splintered and scare off "normal" folks. I almost find it comical that the District can't even work together because one Republican county group thinks the other is trying to take over, some volunteer isn't doing the job the way someone else wants so it's war, another wants to be top dog even though they have the fewest members, etc., etc. It's really not comical, it's sad.
You see the same thing all the way up the ranks of the Republican Party. Politicians trashing what the RNC wants to do, publicly trading jabs with others on issues, etc. It's fractious. It's ego. It's an inability to look at the long-term and to work toward a common goal. The biggest problem I see with our politicians on both sides of the aisle is they work for themselves, not for the good of the country or even their respective Party ideals.
We can't let any of the things I mentioned above seep into the 912 groups, the tea party groups, all the others that are springing up. We have to continue to cross over, work together, meet together. We have to leave our egos, our need to be validated by others, our differences at home.
When I go to tea party rallies, FairTax meets, 912 project talks, I am thrilled to see people from all the various groups working together. I love looking around and seeing all the different t-shirts, signs and information from a wide assortment of causes.
Right now we have fantastic unity. We're keeping our eye on the ball. We have to keep that unity and continue to grow.
If we do, if we can hang in there and we'll attract more and more people. We have the motivation and ability right now to change the country and get it back on the right track.
If we do it right, there will be a point where the so-called mainstream media hears us, where the "elite" who right now look down their noses at us, where Obama, Reid, Pelosi and friends hear us.
We will roar louder. We won't be silenced. We will be heard. We will shock those who act like they don't know we exist or crack jokes about us.
If we keep our eye on the goal, one day Obama and friends will wake up to a roar that is too loud to be ignored and find that their bug spray can't stop the swarm of mosquitoes. Bzzzzz....

Ya know, I've never really thought about how I might change the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, etc. to avoid today's questions and problems with interpretation. I could clear up the God issue real easy, not sure about others. Might be an interesting exercise for a class or other group.
The beneficence shown by God to America is a theme that traditionally defines the Thanksgiving holiday, and this theme is strongly emphasized in the original Thanksgiving Day proclamations and consistently acknowledged even by modern presidents...

Do you ever wonder how people from the past would react if they were magically brought forward into our time? Can you imagine what the founding fathers of our country and authors of our greatest foundational documents would do after a good dose of Obamaism? The Senate will begin formal debate on the health care bill after the Thanksgiving recess. At that time amendments may be introduced as well, which will likely number into the hundreds. Debate will probably take up to 3-4 weeks, so that brings us up to Christmas recess. Even if it passes the Senate then, it would have to be reconciled with the House bill, which is significantly different.
ACTION STEP:
Please circulate the “Health Care Turkey” one-pager to family, friends and colleagues during the next week while the Senate is in recess.

First, let’s be clear - the cloture vote was only to proceed with formal debate. The bill can be filibustered, and some have indicated that they will do so. That means that the Senate would again have to invoke cloture to end that debate. The votes required to end a filibuster are 60. Those votes would come before we even get to a final vote on the bill. So when you hear that the Senate voted to pass the health care bill – THAT IS NOT CORRECT!

Various groups, on both sides of the issues, are squabbling over details: abortion, a "public option," treatment of illegal aliens, size of penalties, distribution of subsidies, calculation of doctors' pay, etc. Items are moved in or out of the bill as needed to capture just the right number of votes with the least electoral damage. None of it really matters. The rules will be written later -- after they "get it done" and "something" passes and the next election is over. Americans need to take the view from 35,000 feet. That's the view of the controllers, the global budgeters, and the folks who drop bombs without having to see the faces of the victims….

What is cloture? If you're like me, you're learning new things about government every day with this administration...
According to this Reference:
"By 1915 (under President Woodrow Wilson), the Senate had become a breeding ground for filibusters. In the final weeks of the Congress that ended on March 4, one administration measure related to the war in Europe tied the Senate up for 33 days and blocked passage of 3 major appropriations bills. Two years later, as pressure increased for American entry into that war, a 23-day, end-of-session filibuster against the president’s proposal to arm merchant ships also failed, taking with it much other essential legislation. For the previous 40 years, efforts in the Senate to pass a debate-limiting rule had come to nothing. Now, in the wartime crisis environment, President Wilson lost his patience. Calling the situation unparalleled, he stormed that the “Senate of the United States is the only legislative body in the world which cannot act when its majority is ready for action. A little group of willful men, representing no opinion but their own (that would be the minority), have rendered the great government of the United States helpless and contemptible.” The Senate, he demanded, must adopt a cloture rule.
On March 8, 1917, in a specially called session of the 65th Congress, the Senate agreed to a rule that essentially preserved its tradition of unlimited debate. The rule required a 2/3rds majority to end debate and permitted each member to speak for an additional hour after that before voting on final passage. Over the next 46 years, the Senate managed to invoke cloture on only 5 occasions. In 1975*****, the Senate reduced the number of votes required for cloture from two-thirds (67) to three-fifths (60) of the current 100 senators."
*****Interesting little side notes I noted trolling the web:
#1: Guess how many Democratic Senators there were in 1975? 60 (the same number needed for cloture as mentioned above).
#2: During the 35 years from 1945 through 1981, the Democrats were the majority in Senate save for 8 years (1st 2 years of Eisenhower's first term and the 1st 6 years of Reagan). During late Eisenhower years through JFK and LBJ, the Democratic Senate majority numbers were as follows: 65, 64, 66, 68, and 64 (ie - total dominance). When Nixon was elected, their majority slipped to 57, 54, and 56. Once Ford was in place, they regained numbers to 60. So after ceding their 2/3rds control of the Senate during Nixon, they changed the rules while still in the majority and suddenly 60 was the magic number for cloture.
#3: From the moment Cloture was first instituted during Wilson until the Cloture rules were changed from 67 votes necessary to 60 (1975), Cloture was invoked only 21 times. In 1975 alone, it was used 17 times by the Democrat-controlled Senate.
#4: During Carter, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton and Bush II it was invoked an average of 12 times a session (6 times a year) and ranged from 3 (Carter) to 34 (Bush II).
#5: Since Democrats took control of Congress in 2007, it has been used 90 times. 90.
QUESTION:So, how do you feel about Harry Reid using a rule that was originally designed as a means of funding WWI by expediting war appropriations bills NOW being used to force Universal Health Care upon the public? Keep in mind the following:
1. Obama's approval rating is only 47%, his lowest since taking office when he was at 65%. While his approval rating has dropped 18%, his disapproval rating has climbed from 30% to 52% in only 10 months.
2. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's approval rating in her own state of California is only 34%.
3. Senator Harry Reid is behind in his re-election campaign in NV by 10% ("Sue Lowden beating Reid by 10%, 50% to 40%. Lowden is chairwoman of the Nevada Republican Party and the preferred candidate of the Republican party establishment. GOP hopeful Danny Tarkanian beats Reid by seven points, 50% to 43%").
4. In the race for California’s next governor in 2010, Republican Meg Whitman and Democrat Jerry Brown are tied at 41% each.
5. After Pelosi's bill passed the House, the public was against the bill 54% v. 42%. Even CA comes in at 51%, down 4% since last week.

Isakson Votes No On Moving Forward With Democrats’ Terribly Flawed, $2.5 Trillion Health Care Bill
U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., tonight voted “no” on moving forward with a $2.5 trillion Democratic health care bill that will raise taxes, raise premiums, cut benefits for seniors and place a massive unfunded mandate on the states.
Isakson voiced disappointment that the Senate voted 60 to 39 to allow the Democratic leader to move forward with his 2,074-page bill. The health care debate will resume in the Senate on Nov. 30 after the Thanksgiving break.
“This bill is bad for Georgia, bad for families and small businesses, bad for our seniors and bad for America. We should scrap it and start over,” Isakson said. “This disastrous bill would raise taxes, raise premiums and drive millions of Americans to a public option where there is no option.”
After several weeks of drafting the bill behind closed doors, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., unveiled a 2,074-page bill on Nov. 18 that would push millions of Americans into government-run health care. Once fully implemented in 2014, the proposal would cost an estimated $2.5 trillion over 10 years.
The legislation also includes $493.6 billion in tax increases and $464.6 billion in Medicare cuts for seniors. In addition, the bill would impose $28 billion in new taxes on employers who do not provide government-approved health plans. Isakson believes these new taxes would ultimately result in reduced wages and lost jobs.
Despite the $2.5 trillion cost, an estimated 24 million Americans would still be left without health insurance and 5 million people would lose their employer coverage under the Democrats’ proposal.
At a time when most states are already under tremendous budgetary stress due to the economy, Isakson also criticized the billions of dollars in massive unfunded mandates that states would have to pay to cover the cost of the proposed expansion of Medicaid contained in the bill.

“This bill is bad for Georgia, bad for families and small businesses, bad for our seniors and bad for America. We should scrap it and start over,” Isakson said. “This disastrous bill would raise taxes, raise premiums and drive millions of Americans to a public option where there is no option.”
After several weeks of drafting the bill behind closed doors, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., unveiled a 2,074-page bill on Nov. 18 that would push millions of Americans into government-run health care. Once fully implemented in 2014, the proposal would cost an estimated $2.5 trillion over 10 years.
The legislation also includes $493.6 billion in tax increases and $464.6 billion in Medicare cuts for seniors. In addition, the bill would impose $28 billion in new taxes on employers who do not provide government-approved health plans. Isakson believes these new taxes would ultimately result in reduced wages and lost jobs.
Despite the $2.5 trillion cost, an estimated 24 million Americans would still be left without health insurance and 5 million people would lose their employer coverage under the Democrats’ proposal.
At a time when most states are already under tremendous budgetary stress due to the economy, Isakson also criticized the billions of dollars in massive unfunded mandates that states would have to pay to cover the cost of the proposed expansion of Medicaid contained in the bill.

On July 15, Isakson voted against the health care reform legislation that passed the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on a 13 to 10 vote. Reid’s bill contains some elements of the Senate HELP bill as well as elements of a separate bill passed by the Senate Finance Committee and some new elements that were not in either committee’s bill.
Isakson is a co-sponsor of S.1099, Patients' Choice Act of 2009, which seeks to strengthen the relationship between the patient and the doctor by using choice and competition, rather than rationing and restrictions, to contain costs and ensure affordable health care for all Americans.

Mary Katherine Ham - The fine art of criticizing Sarah Palin's intellectualism
To them, Palin is audacious (not in that good, Obama way) and out-of-line to even write a book. Her criticisms of the McCain campaign leakers who anonymously bashed her while the campaign was still going on are "ungrateful." To venture to promote the book is more audacious still, and means she gets exactly what's coming to her in all interviews and coverage, no matter how unfair. The fact that the book she's daring to promote is selling extremely well means more license still to sully the woman from Alaska once again. I've heard each of these sentiments uttered or implied by pundits or reporters in print, on Twitter, or on TV this week.

One thing that comes through loud and clear to me as I hear many of the media herd "review" or talk about Sarah or her book "Going Rogue" is that it's become "cool" in certain circles to assert your intelligence by bashing anything Palin. The more cutting, snide or acerbically cute your cut, the better the person speaking seems to feel about their own moronic wit. They work hard to get that little bit of praise, garner a few brownie points, from those they consider to be on their own intellectual level. They strive to get that bit of a smile from their peers that makes them feel good about their own intelligence for a short bit.
It's juvenile, it shows the lack of inner strength, it's herd mentality, it's cruel and it highlights how shallow their inner core truly must be. I have never ever understood how someone can trash anyone else, be so blindingly nasty, yet think they're a good person. If a person has a good center, has a secure core, they don't need the adulation of others, they don't need to slash and trash others to gain acceptance.
Sarah, just by being Sarah, shows all of us the contrast.
She is secure, she has a strong core, she doesn't need to be cutting to make herself feel good. She walks the walk, talks the talk and lives her values. She doesn't need to destroy, or attempt to destroy, others to make herself feel accepted. The weak try to undermine, to cut her down to their size because they don't have anything of strength in their own core. By being Sarah, she shows us all just how craven and lacking those who try to undermine her character really are. She never stoops to their level of nastiness. She turns the other cheek.
Every time someone goes after her, every time someone tries to feel superior by attempting to drag her down, they lose... she is elevated, she looks better, she gains more friends and supporters because the contrast becomes more evident.
Don't ever let 'em get you down Sarah.

Hoffman 'unconcedes' in N.Y.-23 House race
Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman has "unconceded" in New York's special House election after reports that the vote margin between him and Rep. Bill Owens (D) has narrowed.
Hoffman conceded the race on Election Night after learning he trailed Owens by 5,335 votes. But the Syracuse Post-Standard reported last week that the margin had shrunk to 3,026 votes after recanvassing. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/67997-hoffman-unconcedes-in-ny-23

Me: Nothing really new in the story, except Hoffman "unconceded". They're still counting the votes and he'd have to take the majority of the remaining ballots to overturn the election... However, the close it gets, the stronger the statement it makes and the bigger the warning to all those out there who're not walking the walk!

Supporters of President Obama's Amnesty plans attacked Tea Party Against Amnesty & Illegal Immigration demonstrators in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on Sat. November 14, 2009. One of the men attacked is 62 years old. Dave Caulkett of FLIMEN ...(Floridians for Immigration Enforcement) is assaulted and then kicked in the face while he is down. The other camera man from the Tea Party is hit with several signs.

MSNBC Uses Fake, ‘Sexy’ Photos of Sarah Palin on Air; Will Network Correct and Apologize?
On Friday's edition of Morning Meeting, host Dylan Ratigan featured fake photos of Sarah Palin during a mocking segment on why Americans are fascinated with the former vice presidential candidate. While listing the show’s top ten reasons, Ratigan showed a doctored photo of Palin’s head on the bikini-clad body of a woman holding a weapon.
The host never admitted or addressed the fact that his network was passing off counterfeit pictures to his viewers. Earlier in the segment, Ratigan displayed an image of Palin in a short, black mini-skirt. This photo is also not real. MSNBC should immediately apologize for presenting such false information.
