It's not just the Presidential election...

There's a lot of focus, and rightfully so, on the battle for the White House. We need to FILL that empty chair with someone of substance, who can begin to fix the problems rather than play the blame game!

We need to do more though than elect a new President --- we need to give him a support team so he doesn't spend his first two years having to battle Congress. If we can give him the Senate in November we'll be giving him the ability to DO something rather than wade through political gamesmanship, one-up-manship.

I just saw an ad on Drudge that sparked this thought process... clicked, went to a page where they're asking for donations. 100% off the donations go to the eight candidate on the page. You choose your candidate or candidates, pop in the amount and they get it. Every one of them is needed. None are in my state but that doesn't mean I can't support them, donate.

Here's the link: https://2012.senateconservatives.com/?c=5e8c0af64840016bc2dda3c6598cc247 (that one has code that gives Drudge a click through. If you don't want to use that one here's the "vanilla" link with no credit to Drudge: https://2012.senateconservatives.com/step0).

If you can't donate dollars, maybe you can make a few phone calls or send some emails, blog about the candidates, tweet, or think of some other way to support them.

Putting a conservative with the ability to actually do something to put us back on course is extremely important. Giving him a Congress that will enact the policies he proposes is just as important, if not more so.

Magnify Your Efforts

You all know that Obama has filled his Cabinet with people with ethical challenges. They fly through without any major challenges. It seems that we are fighting against the wind as we write, call, fax our opposition to the many actions by Obama, Pelosi, Reid and friends.

I have a suggestion. Rather than JUST sending petitions to Washington D.C. and contacting our elected representatives, let's also contact every media outlet we can imagine. Not just this time, but every time you have a concern.

If you call your Senator, call the local news stations, too. If you write your Congressman, write every media outlet you can find (radio, television, newspaper, etc.). Duplicate everything you do ten-fold.

They're saying the opposition isn't there. They're ignoring our pleas for ethical representation. They're treating us like pesky flies that can be swatted away. Let's show them.

Magnify everything you do.

Get the addresses for every media outlet you can find and make sure you copy them when you send your letters. Get the email addresses of every national and local news outlet you can dig up and copy them on every email you send in protest.

Let's overwhelm them. Let's make it impossible for them to ignore us or swat us away.

(I just posted the above on my main personal blog, Barracuda Babes. Figured I'd share it with a few more of my friends on here)

AFP: Take Action! Tell your Senators to Stop Socialized Health Care

Take Action! (Americans for Prosperity)

We told you about efforts to jam a cap-and-trade energy tax through the Senate using reconciliation, a trick to avoid proper debate and the normal 60 vote requirement for important legislation, and you sprung into action, generating a flood of calls and emails to the Senate and IT WORKED. WE WON that fight and kept cap-and-trade out of reconciliation.

Last week, Sen. Johanns introduced a budget amendment to prohibit the use of reconciliation for cap-and-trade, and it passed on a solid 67-31 vote. Every Republican supported the amendment, as did 26 Democrats. Before the Johanns amendment passed, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid indicated he wanted to do both cap-and-trade and health care under reconciliation, saying that cap-and-trade revenues would be "exactly how much we need for the first phase of health care reform."

Unfortunately, THERE IS NO TIME TO CELEBRATE, because now Democrats are poised to pull the reconciliation trick for their plan to NATIONALIZE AND RATION HEALTH CARE.

There are a few senators that are going to be very influential in this fight. If you know anyone in the following states please forward this email to them: Arkansas, Indiana, Montana, Nevada and North Dakota. We need your help to get the word out!

While the Senate passed a budget resolution without reconciliation language, the House budget specifically includes a section authorizing the use of reconciliation for a national health care plan. This is despite the fact that reconciliation is only relevant in the Senate, where it can short-circuit debate and pass legislation with only 50 votes instead of the regular 60.

This is a TRICK to let Senate Democrats claim they passed a budget without reconciliation, only to have it slipped back in during conference committee, when the House and Senate budgets are combined.

Please click here to send a message to your senator OPPOSING HEALTH CARE RECONCILIATION.

The dean of the Senate, Sen. Robert C. Byrd, Democrat from West Virginia, has made it crystal clear that this is not what reconciliation is for, saying, "I was one of the authors of the legislation that created the budget 'reconciliation' process in 1974, and I am certain that putting health-care reform and climate change legislation on a freight train through Congress is an outrage that must be resisted."

The stakes are enormous. Two big steps toward government-run health care are already in place with the national health information database and the comparative effectiveness research that were hidden in the stimulus plan. We are now only a few steps away from establishing a national health board that will RATION CARE based on the results of comparative effectiveness research, and a coverage mandate designed to, over time, shift more and more people into a government-run and government-controlled health care plan.

Moving health care nationalization through reconciliation will SILENCE moderate Democrats and Republicans and produce the most aggressive, big-government health care plan possible. Any government plan to restructure one sixth of our economy deserves to be debated fully under the regular rules of the Senate.

Answering a few questions on S 277 and HR 1388

I had a few legitimate questions on the "mandatory" aspect of HR 1388 & its companion Senate version, S 277. Also had one of the typical swipes without any supporting references from a 'gee you're a Rush Limbaugh loving type who doesn't know anything' lib (they just can't resist trying to slap you, can they? Peace, love and hugs back atcha.).

Here's a bit from Michelle Malkin:
Especially troublesome to parents’ groups concerned about compulsory volunteerism requirements is a provision in the House version, directing Congress to explore “whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Those who have watched AmeriCorps from its inception are all-too-familiar with how government voluntarism programs have been used for propaganda and political purposes. AmeriCorps “volunteers” have been put to work lobbying against the voter-approved three-strikes anti-crime initiative in California and protesting Republican political events while working for the already heavily-tax-subsidized liberal advocacy group ACORN.
Barracuda Babe's blog post included the actual wording from the bill which includes the "mandatory" aspect.

Here's an interesting interview and bit with Rahm Emanuel:

Wording from the bill (believe this is the House version; the Senate wording is on Barracuda Babes):
(6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.

Here's another opinion (stressing opinion):

Prison Planet.com
Tuesday, March 24, 2009
On March 18, Rep. George Miller, a Democrat from California, tacked an amendment on H.R. 1388, entitled “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act,” or GIVE (to government), Obama’s plan to require mandatory service for all able young people. Miller’s amendment will “prohibit organizations from attempting to influence legislation; organize or engage in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes; and assist, promote, or deter union organizing,” according to GovTrack.us, a site that tracks Congress.
http://truth11.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/give-mandatory-service-act-strips-first-amendment-of-%e2%80%9cvoluntee/

Here's a page of WordPress blog links on the subject:
http://en.wordpress.com/tag/mandatory-service/

Here's a page from Free Republic with loads of links to blogs and articles on the subject:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/hr1388/index

Now it's up to you go decide whether this one is an issue... or not.

Quite a few Republicans are treating this as just the standard re-authorization of the volunteer service group. Could be they're correct, however I would bet the vast majority simply haven't actually read the bill because they have bigger issues on their plate and they think this is ho-hum standard housekeeping. Plus, while the issue is being bandied about on conservative blogs, I think many have been distracted by AIG, the economy, and other issues (some valid, some created) helping to keep this out of the media.

This may, and I stress may, just be the bill that slides through without a question that ultimately changes the future. Only time will tell.

One more quick thought - even if it IS a dangerous bill due to those sneaky little words being slipped into the language, if we work hard and get some balance back in Congress in 2010 and 2012, we can reverse it. Hopefully.

Texas: Don't Forget: Rally for the Voter ID Bill at the Capitol Tomorrow!

Join fellow supporters of Voter ID on the South steps of the Capitol at 7:45 AM tomorrow, Tuesday, March 10!

Tomorrow the Texas Senate hears debate on SB 362, a bill that would reduce voter fraud by requiring a photo ID in Texas to vote. Even though this legislation has the support of more than 70% of Texans and politicians from both sides of the aisle, liberal special interests are intent on burying this bill and denying Texans a fair election process.

To show your support for this important legislation, join Texans from around the state at the Capitol tomorrow at 7:45am and wear red. If you'd like to testify any time during the day, head to the 2nd floor of the East Wing, and sign up at the table in front of the Senate Chamber. You can also register your support by filling out the card for SB 362 outside the Senate chamber in the Capitol. Simply check "Support," and "Does not wish to provide oral testimony" to encourage the Texas Senate to pass this legislation.

If you would like any further information or wish to leave comments about Voter ID, please visit our Web site to share your thoughts.

ALG / Net Right Nation Editorial: Popping the Appropriations Bubble

Congress has once again proven itself to be just about the only entity in America that considers a deepening recession just cause to whip out the credit card and go on an unbridled spending spree.

In fact, judging from the most recent bloated appropriations spending bill passed last week in the House by a lopsided 245-178 party-line vote, it seems clear that government actually thrives during such periods of economic uncertainty. H.R. 1105, also known as the FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act, doles out money to nine separate appropriations, bills which then in turn feed a multitude of government agencies and programs.

“Engorge,” however, might be the more appropriate term.

When all the numbers are tallied, H.R. 1105 contains $410 billion in spending on the included agencies and programs. This marks a $32 billion—or 8%—increase in funding over the FY 2008 levels. And remember: this comes at a time when the national debt is already approaching $11 trillion.

Notwithstanding, the following represents a portion of the funding increases the members of Congress have just approved:

• Transportation/HUD: $55 billion – $6.2 billion (13%) above 2008 levels
• Agriculture: $20.5 billion - $2.4 billion (13%) above 2008 levels
• Energy and Water: $33.3 billion - $2.4 billion (8%) above 2008 levels

As the Republican Committee on Appropriations points out, this staggering surge in funding marks the single largest increase in annual discretionary spending since the “national malaise” days of the Carter Administration (9/11 funding excluded). The included earmarks and pork-projects are similarly outrageous.

It's no wonder, therefore, that President Bush had promised to veto the Democrats' Omnibus Appropriations spending bill should it have arrived on his desk during the waning days of his presidency last year. Such an egregious inflation of government spending ought not to be tolerated by any President—even one with a tendency to occasionally cave to big-spending pressures.

And if the $410 billion wasn't enough to send the fiscally-responsible into a frenzy, the Omnibus Appropriations bill contains funding for agencies that were already funneled money through the federal “stimulus” package. The combined grand total for spending on these agencies and programs tips the scales at a whopping $680 billion.

That tallies at a $301 billion increase—or an 80% swell—over the amount these agencies received in 2008.

The Republican staff of the Appropriations Committee also outlined a number of pork projects and national policy changes included in the legislation. These include:

$2.9 billion—in addition to the $1 billion provided by the “stimulus” bill—towards the 2010 decennial census. This is particularly troubling given the White House's efforts to “supervise”—i.e. control and manipulate—the 2010 national headcount.

$310 million—in addition to the $50 million provided by the “stimulus” bill—for the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities.

$545 million for family planning, including spending for the UN Population Fund for contraceptives.

Moreover, the Omnibus Appropriations bill eases travel and trade restrictions with regards to Cuba, fails to prohibit the future implementation of the “Fairness Doctrine”, attacks school choice in the dismal educational environment of Washington, D.C., and more.

Although the “here and now” of the $410 billion H.R. 1105 is reason enough for national outrage, the true calamity is what awaits the nation down the road should such excessive spending continue.

Facing a national debt of nearly $11 trillion, Barack Obama's recently unveiled $3.6 trillion budget, coupled with an escalating annual deficit, portends nothing short of an economic apocalypse. And the immediate result of this spending spree will ineluctably be higher taxes, higher interest rates, and – sooner rather than later – staggering inflation.

One way or another, the American people will be forced to foot the bill for a Congress spending far outside of its means. And in tough economic times such as these, more taxpayer burden is the very last thing a strapped American people need.

The nation's leaders in Washington ought to step back and face the fact that their out-of-control spending has gone too far. If politicians really want to absolve the deepening economic crisis and set the country on a path towards recovery, they need to trim down the government, cut their costs, and tighten their belts.

Instead, they vote time and again to make the “Appropriations Bubble” grow bigger by the day, blithely ignoring the stark fact that a federal government trying to spend itself solvent is a surefire recipe for an economic “pop” heard round the world.

ALG CTA: Big Government has been so busy bailing everyone out tlast year hat it never got around to passing the regular budget. So, now they need to bail themselves out. Go to StopBailouts.net and sign the petition to put an end to the bailouts once and for all! And don't forget to contact your Congressmen and Senators--before it's too late--and tell them to vote against H.R. 1105 and that not another cent should go to Washington! The Capitol Switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.

Senate Bill 2433 - Research, blog about?

Senate Bill 2433.... It's Already Started
www.opencongress.org/bill/110-s2433/text

According to David Bossie, President of the group 'Citizens United for American Sovereignty based out of Merrifield, Virginia , website: www.citizensunited.org/ the above mentioned Senate Bill (S. 2433) is a piece of legislation in the works that all Americans need to know about... and know now!

This Bill, sponsored by none other than our "President elect" Sen. Barrack Obama, with the backing of Joe Biden on the Foreign Relations Committee, and liberal democrats in Congress, is nothing short of a massive giveaway of American wealth around the world, and a betrayal of the public trust, because, if passed, this bill would give over many aspects of our sovereignty to the United Nations.

Note to all: I'm going to pass along things that are brought to my attention. Some, like this one, I haven't had time to look into. I will as it caused my little antennae to twinge, but thought some of you might want to jump on it faster than I might.

You're invited to present the No Stimulus petition to Senate tomorrow

At 2PM tomorrow afternoon, your NoStimulus.com petitions (which at the moment number 395,047) will be officially presented to the United States Senate in an event at the Capitol. Later in the day, the Senate is expected to make the final vote on the Pelosi/Reid/Obama trillion dollar spending bill.

You're invited to join us for this presentation if you are in or near Washington. It will be held in Upper Senate Park at 2PM tomorrow. I'm sorry we couldn't give you more notice, but moving the vote up to tomorrow was a surprise move by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to try to jam this disastrous bill through before folks can even read the bill.

If someone tells you this fight is over think about this for a moment. Last Friday, I stood at the Capitol with a band of AFP staff, interns and volunteers as we presented our petitions to Senator Jim DeMint -- our free market leader in the Senate. At that time, we had 69,487 petitions.

Tomorrow, we will present your more than 400,000 petitions and -- if you can help us make a final push by sending the site to your friends in next couple of hours – it can be more than 500,000 petitions to the Senate telling them to vote NO on this outrageous spending bill.

Here's the update on where the battle stands.

Senate and House negotiators are set to agree tonight on a $789 billion bill. Here's what we know about the deal:

This conference report provides the least tax relief of any version yet, even cutting President Obama’s signature middle class tax cut from $500 per individual and $1000 per couple to $400 and $800. That takes money out the pockets of regular Americans to pay for more wasteful spending.

This conference report gives away as "tax cuts" tens-of-billions of dollars to people WHO DO NOT PAY INCOME TAXES.

This conference report, by all accounts, still funds the stealth imposition of health care rationing via so-called “Comparative Evaluation Research,” that would let bureaucrats decides whether people are too old or too sick to receive a treatment.

The price tag is still astonishing. $789 billion might be less than the Senate’s $838 billion, but it’s massively more than the $300 billion this bill originally was proposed at, and still tops a trillion dollars when interest is included. There's still $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts, $600 million to buy cars for government workers, $88 million for ATV and bike trails and so much more waste. And, go to stimuluswatch.org to see the wish list of earmarks for cities and counties in your area. It will blow your mind.

With a likely Senate vote tomorrow, time is of the essence. These are the key action items that could lead to victory tomorrow:

1. Get at least 3 more people to sign the NoStimulus.com petition. If we have a huge final push we could reach an astonishing half-million signers -- or more -- before our presentation event tomorrow.

2. Make 1 last call to your senator. Many of you have done this and we're so thankful for your standing up. But, we have just 24 hours to make our final push. Call the Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121 or better yet go on-line and call your Senator's local offices. If you need talking points go to NoStimulus.com and we've got plenty.

3. Consider making a special financial contribution to Americans for Prosperity today. Help us continue to get the word out about the dangers of this no-stimulus bill to literally millions more Americans around the country. Your support will provide resources to ramp up our "No Stimulus" advertising and outreach on websites like the Drudge Report, FoxNews.com, Townhall.com and others for the final day of this fight so we can generate thousands upon thousands of phone calls into Senate offices. A gift of $10, $25, $50 - or any amount you could afford - would go a long way toward reaching even more people with our No Stimulus message and mobilizing them to make a difference alongside you and me to STOP the Pelosi/Reid/Obama boondoggle.

You're making a huge difference. Yesterday, “Americans for Prosperity” and “No Stimulus Petition” were the top two searches in the nation on Google, and your efforts to drive literally hundreds of thousands of people to our NoStimulus.com website was a featured story on the Yahoo! front page. Additionally, today you may have seen the number of petition signers ticking upward along the bottom line of the Fox News “ticker.” You have literally flooded Senate offices with your calls and most of Washington is now going to NoStimulus.com site to view the counter to find out how many folks have signed the petition.

I know the pundits are political prognosticators are saying it's over and the Pelosi\Reid\Obama trillion dollar bill is a done deal.

But, don't be discouraged. Instead, keep fighting. One petition signer from Wisconsin, Carla, sent me an email that says exactly why we should keep fighting. She wrote:

"Tim,

For a week I've been so frustrated over this terrible Stimulus bill. Then in the last day I've called both my senators and my congressman. I've signed the NoStimulus.com petition and then forwarded it to my entire email list. For the first time in my life I even called a local talk radio show to tell people why the bill is so bad.

And you something, I feel so much better because I'm doing all I can do."

Carla is right. We can just be frustrated over what these politicians are trying to do to our nation and our economic freedoms. Or, we can do "all we can do" for our nation.

Thanks and if you are in the area please join us tomorrow, 2PM, Upper Senate Park for the presentation of your petitions to the Senate!!

Sincerely,
Tim Phillips
President, Americans for Prosperity

Congress shutting us out re: Stimulus????

If you're getting rude replies, can't get through, are having your emails bounce... it's time to start pounding the media websites, leaving comments, calling the media about the problems.

Don't let them stop you from voicing your concerns.

Rec'd via Facebook:

Contact media...congress shutting us down.
By Lyn Sue
People are calling, and eMailing. They're being shut out. Phones are busy, they don't answer, mailboxes are full, aides dismiss their concerns, eMails bounce or an auto-generated reply comes. The media needs to be alerted to this. This is stonewalling.

UPDATES ON Stimulus Everyone needs to know

From W.A.M. - Laudits to Sen. Thune (GOP/SD) for attempting to stop the HR1 Catastrophe. Voted down 36 to 61 he offered an amendment that the entire bill be scrapped and its funds be redirected to middle class tax rebates in an equal amount. Imagine how much more that would do to really stimulate the economy!

Most credit due to Senator Vitter (GOP/LA) for his also defeated amendment (45 to 51) to prevent $$ 2.2 BILLION DOLLARS of HR1 from funding A.C.O.R.N. - in the guise of "neighborhood stabilization programs!" This measure doesn't help the economy. It threatens US further as A.C.O.R.N. (now under indictment in numerous states for the vote fraud that swept Obama into office) contributed to the banking and housing collapse through its aggressive demands of unfit housing loans.) And that was only the beginning of their Master Plan!

BIGGEST DISGRACE: GOP Senate support is absolutely necessary for this package of corruption and subterfuge to pass.

Currently these 3 GOP Senators are indicating a potential to likely YES Vote on HR1. They are:

Republican Senators COLLINS AND SNOWE of MAINE and Republican Senator SPECTRE of Pennyslvania.

If they do so, we will all be subjected to dangerous laws hidden in this Socialist Stimulus for Obama backers! (See contents of W.A.M. message to Senators below for details.)

Your W.A.M. ACTION is URGENT this weekend.

If you have not yet contacted Congress with your feedback about HR1, please do so now! Moveon and Obama's other octopus arms are running a massive DIRECT CONTACT campaign to the SENATE in support of this TROJAN HORSE. Make your Voice Heard!

W.A.M. has prepared FAX letters & quick Voice Mails in your exclusive downloads- which address the real issues of worst dangers of HR1. Don't be fooled by Mass Media - all the billions in pork is the least of our worries - other than buying up Congressional votes what the pork really does is act as a cover for HR1 real agenda!

If you can, go to your W.A.M. downloads now to send a quick FAX and/or CALL the 3 Critical Senators above and your own state's. Along with quick send materials, you will find direct contact information for directly reaching Congress.

If you don't have time to PHONE AND FAX, below is a prepared EMAIL MESSAGE and the links to send it NOW to each of these 3 pivotal politicians:

Your follow-through on these quick email sends is a short cut for expressing your resistance as a voter and the WORST REASONS why! (Of course, you can also adapt this message to suit.)

If you are not yet signed in with W.A.M. to access more complete ACTION information and Materials, click here: GET INVOLVED

Another stimulus message

I'm going to be passing along some of the messages I receive re: the scamulus, porkulus, stimulus. Feel free to keep them going. We need to do everything we can to show our displeasure about how this thing is going down. We especially need to make sure Snowe, Collins and Specter hear us loud and clear. I'm planning on sending money to help their Republican opposition and I may even consider flying out there and volunteering if someone wants to take them on.

A message from Pumpkin13 to all members of THE RESISTANCE on Team Sarah!

It appears the Senate just went into recess and I believe they will not return until Monday at 1:00. At that time there will be more debate on the Stimulus Bill and at 5:30 they should hold a "Procedural Vote on the Stimulus Bill" to determine if they will continue with the bill.

If they get that far they will actually vote on the Bill (I am hearing Tuesday).

This means there is time to call your state Senators, on Monday.

Put the heat on them.

Also, contact the three Republic Senators below who have agreed to vote "yes" on the bill.

I know it is a shot in the dark but just maybe they can be swayed back to a "no"vote:

Susan Collins (R-ME) phone# 202-224-2523 and fax# 202-224-2693
Olympia Snow (R-ME) phone# 202-224-2344 and fax# 202-224-1946
Arlen Specter (R-PA) phone# 202-224-4254 and fax# 202-228-1229

I have heard that Specter is not sure how he will vote so we all really need to call or fax him.

E-mail is good but unless you reside in their state they will likely not receive your e-mail...you may not even be allowed to submit an e-mail.

Keep Trying Friends!

If you're on Twitter... get involved with Top Conservative on Twitter

Top Conservatives on Twitter (www.topconservativesontwitter.com) is growing and they are acting. If you go to the site you'll see they have a number of action projects. One that I'm involved in is the one to stop the spending bill.

If you're not on Twitter, check out the "101 on Twitter" on the left sidebar. It may seem overwhelming at first, but soon you'll be tweetin' with the best of them. Put #TCOT in your profile, sign up on the TCOT website and you'll make friends fast.

I encourage you to sign up for one or more of their action projects. You know I've been doing all I can to stop the "stimulus" package. The Democrats are using the bad economy to push through every pet project and entitlement program imaginable in the guise of a "stimulus" package.

I know I'm preaching to the choir. Most of you KNOW this is bad for our country, it's bad for democracy and it's bad for the economy in the long run.

Another group that is working hard and doing great work in fighting the stimulus plan is W.A.M. (Wake Up America Movement). You'll find them at www.wam08.org. Sign up on the site. They send out great info and are working hard to protect our freedoms.

Here's a few stories on the stimulus that popped up today. When contacting your Senator regarding voting NO for the stimulus package, be sure to call your Governor, too. It seems some of them are pressuring Congress to vote yes... Geez. Short sited to say the least.

GOP governors press Congress to pass stimulus bill
Most Republican governors have broken with their GOP colleagues in Congress and are pushing for passage of President Barack Obama's economic aid plan that would send billions to states for education, public works and health care. Their state treasuries drained by the financial crisis, governors would welcome the money from Capitol Hill, where GOP lawmakers are more skeptical of Obama's spending priorities.
