8:12 a.m. in Fayette County, GA --- Election Day as a Poll Watcher!

When I left the precinct I'm watching here in Fayette County 96 people had voted. That's lighter than normal, but only because over 50% of the voters in Fayette have already voted! According to the election workers, the last Presidential election it rained and still the line snaked around the building and up the hill. This election it only went around the building.

There are 34 voting precincts in Fayette County. We have around 106,000 people in the county.

Problems at the polls? I checked on the way back here to type and thus far no problems of note have been encountered.

We had two at my precinct that raised a slight question. One lady had a Louisiana drivers licence, but she did have other photo ID showing Georgia and she was in the system as living here. No biggie, but she does need to get her drivers license changed over!

Another lady had moved to Riverdale (Clayton County) from Fayette and had not changed her place of residence. She was still in the system here. She went to Riverdale to vote, they sent her here. The election workers had her fill in a change of address, then let her vote.

Two minor problems and the line thinned out so I slipped back here to update you all on what's going on.

It's an interesting process! My first action was to check all the machines to ensure they were set to zero (they were). They have double the number of machines this election, which makes things a bit faster. However, there's a bit of a bottleneck at check-in because there are only two of the electronic machines. They need four during heavy elections.

Another tidbit --- the food is great! There are eleven workers at my precinct, many from the same Sunday school class. They all brought things to eat and drink. It's going to be a long day for them. They arrived at 5:45 a.m. and they'll be there until they close up shop tonight. Dedication!

More later!
